REVIEW: Watch the Throne x Kanye West & Jay-Z (The Throne)
the day has finally arrived. hip hop royalty has released their joint album, Watch the Throne. with very mixed reviews, i cannot wait to see how sales turn out. a lot of people refer to Jay-Z’s previous joint effort with R.Kelly, which resulted— as well as the album— with a flop. this time around, ‘Ye and his big brother bring a project mostly produced by Kanye with feature production credits from Frank Ocean and Swizz Beatz. after a first listen…. i like it!
when they released their first single last month, “Otis”, i was convinced that this album was going to be a bunch of bull. i was unimpressed with the track, and found myself liking only ‘Ye’s verse starting with “I made ‘Jesus Walks’, I’m never going to hell”. after a couple more listens, the song has grown on me. what other songs do i favor off the album?

on a hot, humid sunday in Chicago, hipsters, hippies, and fans alike came to Union Square to enjoy the sounds from the artists on various stages at Pitchfork Music Festival.
me and the two fine b*tches I was with (haha! jk. they are fine though) made it to the festival in time to catch Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s set. OF lured a crowd of raging teens smelling of whisky, cigarettes, and weed (whigareed?). there was an obnoxious n*gga throwing water everywhere, effing up my ability to capture a great view of the performance. OF performed an array of songs, many i didn't know because i’m just starting to like Tyler, the creator. overall, i was disappointed in the performance, especially since Tyler’s leg was broken, limiting his movement. he still managed to hop around at moments.

Ms. Kelly's latest single "Motivation" was featured on Billboard at number 1 for 6 weeks, and it continues to dominate radio stations around the country. It was definitely her break back into Hip-Hop/R&B after she's been doing a stint of pop-dance tracks.

VIDEO: Miguel- Quickie
Miguel has released his third single off of his debut album All I Want Is You. Well hot damn, that's some kind of quickie you've got going on, Miguel. I remember when I first heard this song; I thought it was Pretty Willie-- don't act like you don't know. I like the genuine R&B-esque factor of this song. It grooves and it's about love/sex. I can definitely see this being featured on a infomercial for a three disc R&B collection album in 5-10 years-- don't act like you don't know, again!

Watch The Throne- Mini Documentary
The King and the Prince of Hip Hop are gearing up to release their master project together, Watch the Throne. Many are anticipating the August 8, 2011 release, combining the lyrical flow of Jay-Z and the genius production of Kanye West; there are few features, most notably Beyonce and Frank Ocean.
Their single, "Otis" was released earlier last week, and a verified tracklist has been floating around in the blogosphere. Honestly, I wasn't feeling that "Otis" track when I first heard it, but a few more listens, and I may be sold. If anything, this documentary capturing the journey of creating a product from two of the most powerful Hip Hop artists made me amped about the project. I am interested in seeing whether or not fans will be satisfied with the end result, or overhyped and disappointed.
